Healthy teeth sparkle. Your toothpaste doesn't need to!

Please be aware of what has become a big concern for many dentists in the United States including our practice Cosmetic Dental Associates.

In the last few years Crest Toothpaste has been placing blue beads in their toothpaste to make it sparkle.

Come to find out, these beads are actually polypropylene plastic.

There appears not be any research that says if it's okay or not to have these in your toothpaste.

Regardless we're starting to see patients show up for their cleaning with these blue beads around their gums!.

This is something the public should know about.

For more information visit the link below or call us at 713-781-2800.

It's completing your patient forms online prior to your visit. Minimum waiting.

It's the extra wide treatment rooms with lovely hardwood floors and couches.

You probably have never seen a dental practice like this before.

There's extra room to breathe and relax during your award winning dental treatment.
You can feel it.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath and you're in a spa not a dental office.

Most importantly the CDA experience is the docs themselves, among the best in the country. A nice office & free chapstick on the way out means nothing if the work isn't the best possible.

Dr. J. Colt Riley brings the very latest in technology & advanced training to the practice. You can sense his "treat you like family" commitment to each patient. He carries on the practice's decades long commitment to focusing on the individual opposed to the masses.

Dr. Spiker Davis has consistently set the standard for the highest possible level of care for his patients, opposed to low cost, low quality wheel them in and out treatment. He has been recognized locally and nationally as among the best in his field and holds the highest degree of professional accreditation.

If you're anyone from the President of the United States (yes, really) to a Mom, Student, Lawyer , School Teacher, TV Personality, whatever, and are looking for a truly exceptional dental practice, please consider CDA.

Amazing New Cancer Detection Device at CDA - FREE W/ CHECK UP

We're pleased to announce our practice is now using the Oral ID Cancer detection system. According to the Oral Cancer Foundation Oral Cancer is survivable up to 90% of the time when caught in the first two stages. The problem is people rarely get checked for Oral Cancer. This leads to an overall mortality rate of 40%.

A natural place to have these exams is at your Dentist office. We've offered these exams for years but the new Oral ID system we can take these check ups to a new level of detection not possible before.

The new system uses "fluorescence technology" to light up possible cancerous and precancerous areas. It's quick to use and doesn't hurt. In addition if there is a possible problem, the system can gather pics and additional info to pass along to another Doctor if needed. If you're interested in an exam including Oral Cancer check call 713-781-2800 today.

Can Teeth Whitening Hurt Your Dental Health?

Today's fashion highlights white teeth as part of the modern look of attractiveness. Can this go too far and hurt your dental health?

The answer is yes. Tooth whitening can cause pain and irritation. This is your mouth warning you that something isn't right.

According to Linda C. Niessen, D.M.D., professor at Texas A&M Health Science a sensitive reaction to white strips is more common among younger people (20s-30s), people who have erosion or gum disease but can happen to anyone."
Don't take a chance, see your dentist before starting a bleaching program. Get your problem areas addressed and minimize possible complications.

What the over the counter whitening companies don't want you to know is they are often only lightly effective. Professional in office and at home systems are what gives you a more dramatic effect.

Beware the color of your crowns, veneers and bonding we're set during your treatment. If you have existing dental work it might not match after whitening the teeth around it. Your Dentist can tell you for sure.

Keep reasonable expectations.
No matter what you might see in the media your teeth should never be whiter than the whites of your eyes. Remember the teeth you see on a the cover of a web site or magazine are often altered after the fact and not real.

Remember the best way to keep you smile white is prevention. Avoid smoking, coffee tea wine and other things that can stain your teeth.

Let us help with your whitening process. Call Cosmetic Dental Associates at 713-781-2800 to get started.

Are Silver Fillings a Problem?

WHAT IS AN AMALGAM (SILVER) FILLING?
Silver fillings are a combination (or an amalgam) of mercury, silver, copper, tin & other trace metals. These metals mix to form an alloy used for many years to fix cavities.

For decades silver fillings were the standard of care in dentistry for restoring decayed teeth. At Cosmetic Dental Associates we no longer use this type of restoration. We prefer the tooth-colored composite resin fillings.

WHY WE DON’T USE SILVER FILLINGS!
Amalgam (silver) restorations are not bonded to the tooth like composite fillings are, so they do nothing to strengthen teeth.

In fact, studies have shown that amalgam (silver) restorations weaken the tooth once it has been compromised by a cavity and accompanying loss of healthy tooth structure.

Silver fillings require additional removal of healthy tooth (when compared to composite restorations) to make a strong connection with your mouth.

Over time the components within the silver filling expand and contract with changes in temperature and it is often common to see cracks and fractures in both the filling and tooth it's self.

Want to check on any silver fillings you might have? Call us at (713) 781-2800. Financing is available.
